Ultrasound treatments – what are ultrasound waves?
Ultrasonic waves, or acoustic waves, are vibrations inaudible to the human ear. In our youth, we are able to hear sounds up to 20 kHz. Already after 30. year, the threshold decreases to approx. 16 kHz, and drops as low as 5-6 kHz in senior age.
Ultrasound used in aesthetic medicine treatments far exceeds audible sound. These are longitudinal mechanical waves, that is, they vibrate in the direction in which they are emitted by the corresponding device, reaching the selected depth of the skin, depending on the defect we want to improve.
How do ultrasound treatments for the face and body work?
Depending on the frequency used, ultrasound waves show different effects. Seemingly simple sounds, however, have enormous power that can dramatically improve the appearance of the face and body. Aesthetic medicine uses high-intensity focused ultrasound, which is referred to as HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound).
The skin subjected to ultrasonic waves is heated to the appropriate depth. How is it that sound waves produce heat? Well, the vibrations of the ultrasound wave set the cells in motion, which in turn rub against each other under the influence of the movements.
